Uniquely Qualified, Experienced Trial Practitioner with a Heart of Service.

Judge Mayfield

Experienced Trial Practitioner.

Judge Mayfield brings over twelve years of legal experience to the bench. Before becoming a judge, she was a partner in a mid-sized civil defense firm where she handled all phases of civil litigation for a wide variety of clients statewide, including premises and products liability, medical malpractice, wrongful death and negligence and commercial lawsuits in state and federal courts.

She also had an active appellate practice, where she handled post-judgment motions, traditional and interlocutory appeals and original proceedings in the intermediate courts of appeal in Texas, the Texas Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit and various other courts of appeal across the country.  In many of these appeals, she served as lead counsel, including the first published opinion that discussed the 2003 medical malpractice reform statutes passed by the Texas Legislature as part of House Bill 4.

Prior to entering private practice, Judge Mayfield served as a briefing attorney to former Justice Wanda McKee Fowler at the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston, Texas.  There, she helped draft countless civil and criminal opinions and participated in the Court’s deliberations.

Uniquely Qualified.

Judge Mayfield is uniquely qualified to continue her service on this Court because she
has the experience you should expect from your elected judiciary.  Her Court continues
to lead other courts in terms of case disposal rate and backlog.  Her years of experience
in private practice have taught her the importance of prompt rulings and fair trials, and
she remains committed to that principle.

Additionally, Judge Mayfield served for over a decade as a special commissioner in eminent domain proceedings, and thus, she brings a unique understanding of this specialized area of the law to the bench.  For that reason, she remains committed to protecting your constitutional and private property rights.

Offers a Heart of Service.

Before her appointment to the bench, Judge Mayfield served the civil courts in various capacities, including as a court-appointed bilingual guardian ad litem, protecting the interests of minor children.

Personally, Judge Mayfield has served the community in many different ways, including as a mentor to at-risk youth.  The Mayfields are active members of Houston's First Baptist Church, and throughout her early adult years, Judge Mayfield served as a church organist.

Judge Mayfield’s husband, Eric, also shares her heart for service.  Eric is a former Captain in the United States Army where he was deployed to Macedonia and Bosnia during his years of service.
